Garment Care
We all spend a considerable amount of money on our clothes and we want them to look as good as they can for the longest time. That’s what Remaining Things is about - choosing a few beautiful items and cherishing them for many years. Giving our clothes a little bit of love helps them last longer.
Washing, drying and ironing your clothes can really age them if done badly or too often. Here are some tips to make your clothes last longer:
- Consider washing your clothes less. Ask, does it really need a wash this time? An alternative is to hang them out in the air or your bedroom to breathe. Or gently steam ironing it inside out.
- Spot clean a mark or stain instead of throwing the garment in the wash. Always use a gentle soap and massage it in with your hands. Rinse really well.
- Wash on a cooler wash cycle to avoid fading the dyes. Maybe just use a spray stain remover around the neck or cuffs to counterbalance the lower water temperature.
- Always iron your linens, especially the darker colours, inside out, to avoid them getting shiny from the iron.
- When line drying outside, always hang your items inside out. Natural fibres, like cotton and linen, can fade really fast!
- If your hanging wardrobe is exposed to light, hang your clothes inside out on the hanger so they don’t fade.
